All apartments have an ethernet connection located in every room. A connection is also located in the living area for two- and four-bedroom apartments.
Usually computers recognize the new connection but some may need to follow simple steps to connect to the internet which are stated below.
For Windows XP
1. Navigate to Start>Control Panel>Network Connections
2. Click Local Connection
3. Highlight Internet Protocal (TCP/IP) and click Properties
4. Ensure that Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server
address automatically have been selected. Click OK.
5. You should now be able to access all UTEP websites. To access the
Internet (sites outside of UTEP) open your web-broswer to a site
not on UTEP such as Yahoo or MSN. An authentication window will open.
6.Enter your UTEP username (email address without the @miners.utep.edu)
and password. Press enter. If the web-site is available it should now appear
in the web-broswer. You will only need to authenticate once every three hours. |
