Responsibilities of DSSO Minimize    

Ø       Inform students of their rights and responsibilities under Section 504 of Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA)

Ø       Provide a letter to request accommodations.  This notice indicates to professors that the student has provided proof of a disability and that the requested accommodations are considered reasonable and appropriate.  

Ø       Treat and protect all disability-related information as confidential medical information

·          The student is NOT required to disclose any details or diagnoses related to the disability to the professor or any other individual outside of DSSO. 

·          Information about a student’s disability will be shared only on a “need to know” basis or with the student’s written consent.  Need to know is determined by DSSO.

Ø       Inform students of the established grievance policy with regard to DSSO services, policies, or procedures

Ø       Act as student/faculty liaison and provide advocacy as needed to insure equal access and opportunity, and accessibility of the campus, program, course, etc.
