Screen Enlarger--magnifies icons and text on computer screen, such as Zoom Text. This program also reads text information on computer screen out loud.

Screen Reader—software such as JAWS or Window Eyes read text information on computer screen out loud

Kurzweil Readers—1000 (for students with visual impairments) or 3000 (for individuals with learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders, psychological disorders, etc.),
§ software works with a scanner that scans text information and reads
§ Kurzweil 3000 also works as a talking word processor that allows one to type information that can be played back
§ Kurzweil 3000 has word prediction that can assist with spelling
§ Current upgrades of Kurzweil 1000 and 3000 are able to convert text information into an MP3 audio file that can be played back
§ JAWS—To use JAWS software to listen to text information on computer screen

Window Eyes--To use Window Eyes software to listen to text information on computer screen

Color overlay—Used to cover exam/quiz

Magnifier—To use a magnifier to enlarge exam/quiz

Swell Form—Used to create tactile image of graph or drawing

Reader—a student may be eligible for this accommodation if he/she has a substantial limitation:
§ Visual acuity (less than 20/200)
§ Reading comprehension (more than 1.5 standard deviation below the mean in reading and/or visual processing ability)
§ Other conditions where DSSO determines accommodation is reasonable and appropriate
§ Type of service is determined by degree of barrier and/or limitation
§ Reader--DSSO staff member who reads questions on exam/quiz to student with a disability
ü Reader does not provide explanation or assistance to questions
ü All questions about exam/quiz must be referred to professor
