Vision Statement    

The Student Development Center (SDC) seeks to promote individual achievement and interpersonal growth through a wide range of programs and services designed to enhance the educational experiences of all students at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

   
Mission Statement    

The Student Development Center (SDC) serves the broader academic mission of The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) through programs and services that enrich the learning environment outside the classroom. To that end, the SDC offers quality educational programs and valuable social networking opportunities in preparation for lifelong living and learning. The SDC promotes student growth through the following initiatives:

Goals Statement    

The Student Development Center’s (SDC) goals are designed to serve The University of Texas at El Paso’s (UTEP) unique student body and their families. This encompasses adult learners, first-generation, non-traditional and traditional students on a majority-minority campus. The SDC’s goals are outlined below:

Campus Activity Board (CAB)

• To create social programming that will enhance our student body’s collegiate experience.

• To provide innovative entertainment outside of the classroom.

Diversity Initiatives

• To collaborate with university departments and the greater El Paso community to celebrate our diversity and its relationship within our global society.

• To create an environment where diversity is included in all areas of the UTEP campus. (e.g., academic curriculum, out of class experiences, training, and orientations.)

Greek Life

• To enhance leadership and accountability among all members.

• To create unity through service, intramurals and strategic programming.

Health Awareness

• Hold programs relevant to health issues in the El Paso and Juarez, Mexico area.

• Partner with the Student Health Center and other community programs to increase health awareness among students, faculty, staff, and the community.

Leadership

• Lay the foundation for transformative leadership training in collaboration with key players on campus.

• Implement the initial stages of said leadership training program(s).

Student Activity Center (SAC)

• To provide student organizations with the tools and resources needed to support its members.

• To provide training for emerging student leaders and their advisors.

Student Clubs and Organizations

• To raise awareness of student involvement through clubs and organizations.

• To encourage individual students to identify with a club or organization and take the step to become involved.

Women’s Resource Center (WRC)

• To raise awareness among the UTEP community (e.g. students, faculty, staff, and administration) of the Women’s Resource Center programs and services.

• To invite the community to take ownership of the center’s purpose and future.

• To provide a safe space for engagement and interactive learning.

Integrating Families

• To bridge the gap between the UTEP community and their families.

• Strengthen family bonds through family-oriented programming.
