GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a 5-year program funded by the Department of Education to expand educational opportunities and to assist students in becoming college eligible and then academically successful in higher education.

 
The University of Texas at  El Paso GEAR UP Program partners with Wiggs and Cordova Middle Schools and Austin and El Paso High and community organizations to instill the desire for higher education in students at an early age and to encourage greater parental involvement in education.
